World survey: 81% of singles more likely to use dating apps with verified profiles

World has published the results of an online survey conducted by The Harris Poll, according to which 81% of singles would be more likely to use a dating app if every profile were verified as belonging to a real person. Another 80% said they would be willing to verify their own profile if their matches did the same. The survey was conducted in the US on August 20–21, 2026, among 892 single adults aged 18 and over, of whom 649 had used dating apps.

What the survey found

According to the research, 70% of respondents would prefer to match with an average-looking person they knew was real rather than a highly attractive profile whose authenticity they were unsure of. Nearly half (46%) said they would meet someone in person sooner if they knew their match was genuine.

The fake profile problem

Among online daters, 74% said they had suspected a match was fake at least once, and 57% named fake or deceptive profiles as one of the biggest problems on dating apps. World commissioned the survey and promotes its World ID technology as a way to verify that a user is unique and human without sharing a name or date of birth.

How World ID reached Tinder

The source reports that Tinder has introduced World ID verification, called Proof of Human, in the US and Japan. Users who complete the process can display a verification badge on their profiles. The source does not specify other countries or timelines for expansion.
