Senior Treasury Analyst
The Senior Treasury Analyst at a crypto project manages liquidity, cash flow forecasting and asset risk, and prepares analytics for the CFO and the treasury team.
What a Senior Treasury Analyst does
The Senior Treasury Analyst makes sure the company always has the right funds in the right currency and on the right platforms. In the crypto vertical this is harder than in traditional business: assets are volatile, balances are spread across exchanges, hot and cold wallets, stablecoins and fiat accounts at several banks and payment providers, and transactions run around the clock. The analyst's job is to see the whole picture and turn it into decisions: how much to hold in liquid assets, where and when to convert, and which positions to hedge.
The role is needed by companies that earn from crypto turnover, margin trading, OTC deals, player or trader payouts, and hold significant balances. A mistake in a cash forecast or a late top-up of a platform can halt withdrawals, lose customers and trigger penalties from partners. Treasury analytics is therefore directly tied to the operational stability of the product.
Within the company, the Senior Treasury Analyst usually reports to the head of treasury or the CFO and works closely with risk management, the operations team, accounting and treasury traders. At the Senior level the analyst often manages one or two junior analysts or an intern, and has the authority to defend their recommendations to management on the basis of data.

By vertical
Crypto
In crypto projects the Senior Treasury Analyst works with assets whose prices swing sharply and with funds moving between blockchains, exchanges and wallets. Key tasks here include exposure control, stablecoin management, transfer speed and understanding network fees, as well as the risk of a freeze or delay on the counterparty side.
Levels
Senior
A Senior independently runs the liquidity forecast and is accountable for its accuracy, proposes hedging and conversion decisions, and defends them before the CFO. They mentor junior analysts, build reconciliation procedures and take part in incident reviews, rather than only preparing data.
How to get there
Most people move into treasury analytics from financial analysis, accounting with reconciliation experience, banking credit or trading operations, or treasury functions at traditional companies. What matters most is an understanding of cash flows, the ability to work with large datasets and meticulous attention to accounting. Crypto experience can often be gained in adjacent roles: operational accounting, withdrawal reconciliation, or work with payment providers.
To enter the crypto vertical, it helps to learn the basics: how wallets and custody work, why network delays and fees occur, what stablecoins are and what risks they carry, and how spot, margin and futures trading work. Practically, it is useful to learn how to reconcile balances from exports on your own and to build a simple liquidity model in a spreadsheet.
Growth usually goes from analyst to lead analyst and then to Senior, where you become responsible for forecasts and recommendations to management. Later options include moving into treasury as a management function or into a role focused on risk. Advancement depends largely on how well you can explain numbers to a non-technical executive and how often you spot problems in advance instead of reacting to them.

FAQ
How is a Senior Treasury Analyst different from a treasurer?
A treasurer usually owns the execution of transactions and relationships with banks and platforms, while the analyst is responsible for data, forecasts and recommendations. In small teams these functions are combined. In large companies the analyst builds the basis for decisions that the treasurer or head of treasury makes.
Do I need to know programming to do this job?
Programming is usually not required, but basic SQL and comfortable work with API exports speed up the job considerably. Being able to build models in spreadsheets and understand where the data comes from is often more important. Knowing Python helps automate reconciliations, but it is a plus rather than a requirement.
What experience do I need to get this role at a crypto company?
Employers usually look for experience in financial analysis, treasury, reconciliations or banking operations, along with an understanding of crypto processes. If you have no direct crypto experience, it helps to show knowledge of transfers, fees, stablecoins and risks using concrete examples.
What determines the salary level in this role?
Pay depends on the size of the company and the volume of treasury operations, the complexity of the product and the variety of assets, the presence of regulatory requirements, and the level of responsibility for forecasting. Region, experience and willingness to work under high load during periods of volatility also matter.
What are the most common risks in a crypto treasury analyst's work?
The most common are a lack of liquidity on the required platform at the required moment, delays in transfer confirmation, asset concentration with a single counterparty, discrepancies between records and actual balances, and sharp exchange rate moves. The analyst's task is to anticipate these scenarios in advance and propose limits.
